Investor Seeks Cambodia Justice Ministry’s Help in YY Capital Dispute
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — An investor and shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has turned to Cambodian authorities for help in a dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei. The investor alleges serious misconduct, including breaches of trust, embezzlement, and other financial irregularities linked to the firm’s operations.
In letters submitted to Cambodian officials, including one addressed to the Ministry of Justice, the investor claims he was defrauded and financially harmed by Yamada, a Japanese national who chairs YY Capital’s board. The letters allege that several real estate transactions in Cambodia were manipulated, with preliminary investigations suggesting that roughly $4 million was misappropriated for personal benefit and that of others.
The investor also accuses Yamada of creating fictitious business transactions, including loans exceeding $7 million, and of diverting large sums of cash through shell companies. Some of the funds are reportedly held in an overseas account under the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
Additional allegations suggest that Yamada established shell companies across Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, using nominees while maintaining direct control over the companies’ bank accounts and financial operations.
According to the letters, Cambodian prosecutors have already filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others, with certain assets and bank accounts frozen under court orders. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities in multiple countries—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—are reportedly reviewing allegations of embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering.
The investor urged Cambodian courts and authorities to conduct thorough investigations and expressed concern that interference could allow suspects to evade justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
